Room 19

"Room 19" is an environment I created in Blender, designed to resemble a seemingly ordinary hotel corridor that reveals subtle horror elements the closer you look. The scene is dimly lit, with understated details such as blood stains, a cracked mirror, statue heads staring directly at the viewer, and a shadowy zombie figure behind the last door, Room 19, all contributing to a creeping sense of unease.

Behind The Process

I created the environment myself, then imported a few assets from Polyhaven to help fill out the scene. The camera was positioned at the end of the corridor, set to panoramic and tilted slightly with a fisheye lens at 25mm to exaggerate perspective and add tension. The zombie figure was imported from Mixamo and placed subtly behind the last door to reinforce the horror element.

I rendered the scene using Cycles at 512 samples, with a resolution of 4000px x 5000px, splitting it into multiple render layers to isolate elements such as the door numbers, and blood stains. This allowed me to make targeted adjustments in Blender’s compositor. For example, the door numbers were difficult to see due to the dim lighting, so I rendered them separately to increase their exposure.

Final colour correction and grading were done in Adobe Lightroom, after which I brought the image into Photoshop to add smoke and enhance the overall atmosphere.
